About

A solidarity of men ages 36+ from the church of St . Sharbel, Somerset, NJ, who are committed to fully supporting the church, parishioners, and pastor in all aspects, through the Maronite Faith, Service & Leadership.

Goals

Protect and enrich the church and parishioners. Organize both fundraising and charity events. Network with official figures as well as neighboring churches.

Principals

To become better human beings, grow deeper in  our faith, and emerge as missionaries in our every day lives.

A Promise The 2nd Sunday of October

All active members in good standing earn the privilege to make their promise on the 2nd Sunday of October in honor of the Canonization of St. Sharbel. Elections of the new board will take place on the first meeting following the feast day.

Scheduled Events

Great Friday - Organize the procession and help carry the shroud of Jesus.


Palm Sunday - Organize the procession. 


Mother’s Day - Sponsor the liturgy and organize the coffee hour duties. 


Liturgy of Priests - Organize the annual liturgy. Takes place before Great Lent.


Rutgers Parking - Help direct parking for customers as well as MCF & Arabic classes on Saturdays during Rutgers home games. 


Spiritual Growth - Organize a mandatory annual retreat.

Board of Trustees

President - Oversees the organization’s operations, reports directly to the priest, & sits on the church’s council. 


Vice President - Acts as lead in the President’s absence, is in charge of ushers and lectors, and is the liaison between the other church organizations.

 

Secretary - Handles media, marketing, & meeting minutes, and is responsible for all communications. 


Treasurer - Handles all of organization’s finances & prepares the financial reports for review. In charge of parking & fundraising. 


Formation Officer - In charge of guest speakers, cultural events, religious retreats, & social gatherings. 


Mission Officer - Handles missionary & charity work. 


Advisor - Advises the current president and organization. Position is automatically held by the president up on completion of his term. 


*All board members serve a 2 yr term with a 2 consecutive term limit.

Immaculate Conception Ladies Sodality

The Immaculate Conception Sodality is a religious organization of women ages 36+ established to preserve the faith, serve the church and work together for the needs of the community. Their mission is to provide for the spiritual and material needs of the church, especially the altar; to provide support and service for the Pastoral Team of St. Sharbel; to enhance the spirituality of the members; to support the various Parish activities; and to foster spiritual growth of the Parish through religious activities, by personal example and by commitment to the devotion to the Blessed Mother.

MYA

Mary's Young Adults in Somerset, NJ (MYA/ages 18-35) is a spiritual, cultural, and social organization, which strives to foster unity among the Young Adults of the Maronite Catholic Church. The organization is based in Saint Sharbel Maronite Catholic Church in Somerset, NJ. The MYA is open to all young adults over the age of 18 who are members of the Maronite Church or who believe in the values and principles of the Maronite Church.

Mission

The mission of the MYA is to unite the young adults, support and guide them in their path to personal and spiritual growth, help them expand their knowledge and support their educational and cultural development, encourage fellowship through social and recreational events, and serve the community through evangelization and philanthropic activities. 

The MYA strives to fulfill its mission through the work, support, and dedication of every one of its members, as it depends on them to mold and shape the organization and to make it grow and prosper. By engaging in open discussions, lectures, and forums about issues pertaining to young adults, the MYA members will build more knowledge and enrich both their personal and spiritual growth. The MYA also encourages its members to celebrate and promote their heritage and traditions, and to expand their cultural development. All young adults are encouraged to engage in its social and recreational events and activities and to develop meaningful relationships with one another as one community. Each member of the MYA represents the core values of the organization, and it is our duty as Christians to help spread the word and love of God. 


The young adults are the bridge of the future and the role models of our youth, and the MYA hopes to be a solid block in the bridge and an inspiration to the youth.

MYO Mission Statement

The primary purpose of the MYO (ages 12-18) shall be to promote the spiritual welfare of its members, to strengthen youth groups in the Maronite faith, to have prayer days, to learn more about each other and to grow socially and intellectually. 

Our goal is to build a community of teens and adults. In this community, we hope to create opportunities for the development of personal faith, service to others and systematic instruction in our Maronite religious tradition. To achieve this goal, we will: 


* participate in liturgies 

* hold annual and regional youth retreats 

* assist the needs of local parishes 

* support eparchial organizations and activities 

* hold monthly meetings and prayer services 

* organize fundraisers for local churches 

* hold social events to promote American Lebanese heritage 

* understand and promote "Faith of the Mountain" series

The Knights of Mary is for children ages 8-11 years. Their purpose is to learn about the basic Catholic teachings, and the rich Maronite heritage, therefore leading them into a deeper understanding of the faith, a stronger commitment to the Church, and a closer and personal relationship with Christ. 

Why Should Children Participate?

Participating in the Knights of Mary will help children: 


  • Mature in human life through interaction with others. 
  • Help develop their personalities.
  • Help deepen their faith through living and sharing with others. 
  • Form them as disciples of Jesus Christ in their society by helping others.
